Bluesky is an initiative to develop a decentralized social network protocol.
Former twitter CEO (and co-founder) Jack Dorsey first announced the Bluesky initiative in 2019 on Twitter. Parag Agrawal was the manager of BlueSky. Twitter commissioned Jay Graber to compose a technical review of the decentralized social network landscape. She was hired to lead Bluesky in August 2021. Bluesky formally incorporated in late 2021 as a public benefit LLC and was separated from Twitter with Graber as its chief executive officer (CEO) and Dorsey on its board of directors.
The Twitter-like Bluesky app, backed by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, is now available in the App Store as an invite-only beta.
