NASA Artemis II is the first crewed mission of the Artemis program and the first time humans have traveled toward the Moon since Apollo 17. The mission is using NASA's Orion spacecraft and Space Launch System (SLS) and is having 4 astronauts ( Reid Wiseman , Victor Glover , Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen ) who won't land or walk on moon.
This mission is mainly a test flight with astronauts on board. NASA wants to verify that all deep-space systems work safely before attempting a lunar landing mission.
The spacecraft has already performed a lunar flyby, i.e., circled the Moon in a free-return trajectory and gone close to the lunar surface.
