The unrest erupted after Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defeated Arsenal in the Champions League final. Around 20,000 fans gathered along the iconic Champs-Élysées and near the Arc de Triomphe to celebrate the victory, setting off flares and creating the atmosphere of a massive street party.
However, the celebrations soon descended into disorder as smaller groups began vandalizing shops, overturning electric bikes, and setting fire to vehicles and trash bins. Riot police were deployed to control the crowds and disperse the rioters. Officers reportedly used tear gas after a group allegedly attempted to break into a local police station.
More than 400 people were arrested nationwide, with hundreds of those arrests occurring in Paris. Authorities also reported extensive property damage and injuries to several police officers.
